Depression Information
Depression does not have to rob you of enjoying life, being happy, and doing fun things. The good thing about depression is that most of the people that earnestly seek treatment find relief. You don't necessarily have to take an antidepressant. Simply talking with a good therapist can boost the happiness levels of most people.
Depression and Friendship
A good friend that knows how to listen can also make a great case for helping you with depression. Why? A good friend is basically someone that is a free therapist. Knowing that someone is there for you and that cares for you can help alleviate depression symptoms a lot. Much of feeling depressed is about feeling socially isolated and alone.
Depression and Self Esteem
The most important thing about self esteem is knowing that you can accomplish something. If you know you can do something, it makes you feel good about yourself. You may have run into someone that always says that they can't do anything. People are filled with despair as they listen to someone constantly talk about how it is impossible to accomplish anything.
On the other side, if you feel a low self worth, go out and accomplish things. You might make a list of things to do that you know you can do. If you learn to do things, and challenge yourself, your self esteem will grow. Your locus of control will shift from external to internal. You will find that you feel more in control of being happy and so you will be.
The Environment and Depression
There are a lot of environmental stressors to depression. Poor diets lead to sugar cravings and crashes. Some people have hypothyroidism, diabetes, and other diseases that make us more prone to depression.
The other environment factors are what we do with out time. Some people live at the television set and others go out and do things. The more active we are with people and the more we do things that are important the happier we feel. It is ironic that the easiest thing to do (sit and do nothing) will make us the saddest. The way to happiness is to get out and do things.
Many people could cure their depression with two simple things: 1- Get rid of electronic devices (especially television) and 2- Get a job or find some meaningful work. It is the natural person that seeks the easy way. The easy way is television, texting, and the internet. The hard way is to interact with others and work at things. Research has shown that the hard way produces happiness and the easy road is the path of misery.
