Depression Statistics
Statistics show that about 30% of women are depressed. In the US, about 8% of the population has major depression. Men are depressed at a rate of around 24%. We also know that over 80% of all depressed people do not get any treatment.
The statistics are suspect. Many people will not admit to depression. Still, other people aren't really all that happy, yet they are not classified as depressed. Many people interested in depression statistics want to know how effective our society is at making people happy. Unfortunately, it is a difficult question. We don't have any better answers here, but you can be assured that depression is much higher than any reports will show.
The good thing is that depression statistics show that 80-90% of people that seek treatment will find relief. That's great news.
Depression is growing. It is expected to be the second most popular health problem in the world, by 2020. (works cited http://www.nimh.nih.gov)
