How to treat depression

Depression is most often treated with a therapist and some antidepressants. The great news is that 80%-90% of people are able to find relief. They may not feel super happy like some people, but their symptoms will be decreased.

Some people like to treat depression with light therapy. The body needs sunlight to be healthy and happy. In the Winter, people often get the blues. Some doctors, prescribe a sunlamp to make the person feel like it is Summer.

In most cases, depression is never treated. Depression statistics show that only around 10% of people will ever seek treatment. The worst cases are more often treated. People with mild depression usually won't even admit to feeling depressed.

In the worst case, depression is treated by sending the patient into a mental clinic to live there. The individual will be put under constant surveillance and have doctors visit them regularly.

In cases, where nothing seems to work, electroconvulsive shock therapy is used. That is where you hook electrodes up to the head and shock the brain. This type of therapy is controversial, but is still used when people are severely depressed and can't seem to get any relief any other way.

One of the best treatments for depression is to get out and work. Working can make someone feel worthwhile, valued, loved, and all can be a very positive thing in someone's life. Many depressed people make the mistake of avoiding work and difficult situations. Sometimes work is the antidote depressed people need.
