Major Depression
Major depression is classified as someone having five or more symptoms, of depression, for at least two weeks. Just like the definition of depression, this doesn't help much. People that feel inadequate, weak, tired, and worthless, are majorly depressed. The only problem is that everyone feels optimistic on some levels and pessimistic on other levels. Some of us have better self esteems than others. That's par for the course.
I think a better definitions for major depression is a sudden intensity of depressive symptoms. Do you feel that you really need help? That's a good sign that you may be in major depression. If you think about suicide and make plans, then you are definitely majorly depressed. If new depressive symptoms intensify and feel difficult to control, then get help. You can always call 911 or the free suicide hotline (1-800-suicide) and just talk for free.
