Symptoms of Depression
The symptoms of depression are confusing. For example, if you eat too much or not enough. You sleep too much or don't sleep enough. You are tired a lot. You feel guilty or worthless. You beat yourself up a lot. Basically, depression symptoms try and look at what is different that wasn't there yesterday. For example, a person eating more and sleeping less is not the sign of a good cook and a busy schedule. It's depression. If you feel guilty or worthless, that means you are depressed. It doesn't mean that you just committed a sin and need to repent. It's all so confusing.
The general idea is how do you feel right now. Well, for most depressed people they have always felt the same way. It's not like they woke up one day and were depressed while the rest of their life was jolly and fun. So, what do you compare it to. You can't compare your life to one that has never been lived. It's like you are supposed to go to your imaginary world and think up how life should be and compare it to what current life is like. Is it any wonder that expectations come up short?
When depression gets really bad is when it interferes with regular life. Do you avoid going out because of how you feel? Do you miss work because you feel sad? Do you think about suicide or getting away from your life? Are your thoughts worse now, than they used to be. These are all serious signs of depression.
